Jesus Is Risen!

28 ^(A)Now after the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, ^(B)Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to look at the tomb. ² And behold, a severe earthquake had occurred, for ^(C)an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled away ^(D)the stone, and sat upon it. ³ And ^(E)his appearance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. ⁴ The guards shook from fear of him and became like dead men. ⁵ And the angel said to the women, “^[a](F)Do not be afraid; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified. ⁶ He is not here, for He has risen, ^(G)just as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying. ⁷ And go quickly and tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead; and behold, He is going ahead of you ^(H)to Galilee. There you will see Him; behold, I have told you.”

⁸ And they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy, and ran to report to His disciples.

^22 (A)saying, “^(B)The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed and be raised on the third day.”

⁴³ And they were all amazed at the ^[a](A)greatness of God.

^(B)But while everyone was astonished at all that He was doing, He said to His disciples, ⁴⁴ “As for you, let these words sink into your ears: ^(C)for the Son of Man is going to be ^[b]handed over to men.” ⁴⁵ But ^(D)they ^[c]did not understand this statement, and it was concealed from them so that they would not comprehend it; and they were afraid to ask Him about this statement.

^31 (A)Now He took the twelve aside and said to them, “Behold, ^(B)we are going up to Jerusalem, and ^(C)all the things that have been written through the prophets about the Son of Man will be accomplished. ^32 (D)For He will be ^[a]handed over to the Gentiles, and will be ridiculed, and abused, and spit upon, ³³ and after they have flogged Him, they will kill Him; and on the third day He will rise.” ^34 [b](E)The disciples understood none of these things, and the meaning of this statement was hidden from them, and they did not comprehend the things that were said.

¹² Now if Christ is preached, that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there ^(A)is no resurrection of the dead? ¹³ But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised; ¹⁴ and ^(B)if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain, your faith also is in vain. ¹⁵ Moreover, we are even found to be false witnesses of God, because we testified ^[a]against God that He ^(C)raised ^[b]Christ, whom He did not raise, if in fact the dead are not raised. ¹⁶ For if the dead are not raised, then not even Christ has been raised; ¹⁷ and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; ^(D)you are still in your sins. ¹⁸ Then also those who ^(E)have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. ¹⁹ If we have hoped in Christ only in this life, we are ^(F)of all people most to be pitied.

²² “Men of Israel, listen to these words: ^(A)Jesus the Nazarene, ^(B)a Man ^[a]attested to you by God with ^[b]miracles and ^(C)wonders and ^[c]signs which God performed through Him in your midst, just as you yourselves know— ²³ this Man, delivered over by the ^(D)predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, ^(E)you nailed to a cross by the hands of ^[d]godless men and put Him to death. ^24 [e]But ^(F)God raised Him from the dead, putting an end to the ^[f]agony of death, since it ^(G)was impossible for Him to be held ^[g]in its power.

⁶² Now on the next day, that is, the day which is after ^(A)the preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered together with Pilate, ⁶³ and they said, “Sir, we remember that when that deceiver was still alive, He said, ‘^(B)After three days I am rising.’ ⁶⁴ Therefore, give orders for the tomb to be made secure until the third day; otherwise, His disciples may come and steal Him, and say to the people, ‘He has risen from the dead,’ and the last deception will be worse than the first.” ⁶⁵ Pilate said to them, “You have a ^(C)guard; go, make it as secure as you know how.” ⁶⁶ And they went and made the tomb secure with ^(D)the guard, ^(E)sealing ^(F)the stone.

The Fact of Christ’s Resurrection

15 Now ^(A)I make known to you, brothers and sisters, the ^(B)gospel which I preached to you, which you also received, ^(C)in which you also stand, ² by which you also are saved, ^(D)if you hold firmly to ^[a]the word which I preached to you, ^(E)unless you believed in vain.

³ For ^(F)I handed down to you ^[b]as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died ^(G)for our sins ^(H)according to the Scriptures, ⁴ and that He was buried, and that He was ^(I)raised on the third day ^(J)according to the Scriptures, ⁵ and that ^(K)He appeared to ^[c](L)Cephas, then ^(M)to the twelve. ⁶ After that He appeared to more than five hundred brothers and sisters at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some ^(N)have fallen asleep; ⁷ then He appeared to ^[d](O)James, then to ^(P)all the apostles;

⁵⁵ Is this not the carpenter’s son? Is ^(A)His mother not called Mary, and His ^(B)brothers, James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas?
